Curriculum and Training

Sticky Mits follows the Birth to Three Matters and the Foundation stage frame work, but we are slowly bringing in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), to comply with the new government legislations. If you would like to know more about this new scheme, please feel free to ask the setting manager.

Each child is observed at least once a week whilst they engage in an activity or during their free play time. Records are kept, either written by a member of staff or evidenced by a piece of the child's work, and these observations are then used to complete our 'observation records'. These records are held at Sticky Mits in complete confidence until your child is ready to start school. The information is then shared with the appropriate school. Parents are welcome at any time to discuss their child's progress with the appropriate key person or nursery manager.

All of the children are treated individually and we plan our curriculum around their needs. We pride ourselves on being a friendly caring group where all children are treated equally. All activities and equipment are accessible to every child, and where necessary adapted to meet individual needs. Children with special educational or physical needs are welcome at Sticky Mits and we will work closely with their families to ensure we are providing the best educational opportunities possible.

Sticky Mits works closely with other professionals, including the Pre School Learning Alliance (PLA), Ofsted, and the area Inclusion Officer (INCO), ensuring that all members of staff are fully up to date with all the latest news on child development and training. Staff members are encouraged to attend training sessions on a wide variety of subjects and expected to put those new skills to practice for the good of our children. Every member of staff attends a first aid course and is encouraged to develop their personal childcare qualifications.
